Lost in Binary Questions?
Black or white? Good or bad? Male or female, yes or no? Zero or one? We are very familiar with these binary choice questions. In fact, from the very moment of our birth, we are labelled by the society. The first question they ask is whether the baby is a boy or a girl? If it’s a boy, he should wear blue. If it’s a girl she should wear pink. Generally, it doesn’t end up in wearing blue or pink. We are given with roles to perform through our lives. Anyhow, we have no choice but to accept and play it; There, our journey of maintaining gender stereotypes. As long as we, . Being the alpha male or extreme female, every thing is totally fine. Nonetheless, something in between will be beyond the limits.
Being Male or Female
If I ask how many sexual organs humans have, you will give me a list of organs male and female reproductive systems are consist of. I’m quite sure that you will miss the brain in your answer. In fact, The most powerful sexual organ in the human body is brain. Sensations, stimulation, movements and every thing happen within an intercourse is controlled by brain; so, your sexuality. It should not be the society who decide our gender, but our brain; which means our sexual orientation should be what we feel.
Where do you belong?
How do you know which gender you belong to? At any moment of your life, have you ever felt that you are not what you are? May be your thoughts are affected by a slight feminine touch. May be if you act a little masculine in making decisions; if you are a girl, you might have felt like wearing male attires. What about cutting your hair short? Have you ever noticed young male kids wearing high heels, make up and lips stick? Yes. You have. Some kids love it; and some girls love wearing male clothes. Thus, can you define their gender specifically? No.
Just observing their physical appearance or reproductive organs is not enough to judge their gender. Sex yes. You can. But gender, you can’t. And that is called gender fluidity.” Feeling of not belonging to binary gender stereotypes.” In my point of view, every kid, every human being is gender fluid.
Why believing in history?
According to the history, human beings are divided into two gender groups as men and women; and they are given with specific tasks to perform. Basically, every theory and every story is built up on these binary genders. “Women are to do household stuff and men are to feed family by hunting.” However, just because we accepted these stories for centuries, do we have to act accordingly? What about the modern moms who do every thing including earning? Think of the fathers who do all house hold stuff? Thus, what is the difference? Why we think that only men can do it or women can do it? In fact, everybody is capable of doing anything they want if they have the will. Like that, we are evolving. In the modern world man can be a woman or woman can be a man inside her mind.
As I have read , gender stereotypes are maintained in order to continue the chain of capitalism. As long as the men and women act according to the norm, it will not affect the system. Are we contributing that system by following the tradition. Are we a part of a master plan? Fluidity is not acceptable in this world. Every odd number is impossible in this world. Therefore, why not being unique? Why not stand in between? Deceptive stories from the past has overwhelmed us for a long time. Still, we are bewitched by them.
Beauty of being different
Diversity is not crime. It is amazing to be diverse. Being different means being unique. Understanding the difference and respecting is the beauty of the world. Although, it’s hard to accept the fluidity, we cannot refuse it. Your child, your mother or you have your own feelings. Just because you are not up to the fine line, it doesn’t mean that you are not a human being. Let your husband cry as he wishes , let your daughter wear her brother’s shirts. Let your heart feel what it really feel. They decide because it’s easy for them. Why dividing yourself to satisfy others.
You are lucky, we are lucky to have this wonderful mind which is totally fluid. Society will coin new words to trap our minds. Nevertheless, as it’s fluid; nobody can control, even you. Therefore, no use of drawing fine lines.
